Greta Thunberg's emotional speech to EU leaders. April 2019

She did it again! Greta Thunberg, the Sweedish teenager who started school strike movement, gave a powerful speech on climate change to MEPs in Strasbourg.

Swedish teenage environmental activist Greta Thunberg says time is running out to halt climate change and she’s urging European politicians “to panic.”

Thunberg told Members of European Parliament today: “I want you to act as if the house is on fire.”

She said that “if our house was falling apart you wouldn’t hold three emergency Brexit summits and no emergency summit regarding the breakdown of the climate and environment.”

During a speech met with a standing ovation, Thunberg fought back tears as she warned about rapid species extinction, soil erosion, deforestation and the pollution of oceans.

In a reference to the international funding effort launched to rebuild the fire-ravaged Notre Dame cathedral in Paris, she urged the lawmakers to use “cathedral thinking” to tackle climate change.

Greta’s 10-minute speech was interrupted by frequent applause and ended with a 30-second standing ovation.

Great Speeches

Fired Up is a short animated film that depicts the origin story of President Obama’s famed “Fired up, ready to go” chant.

On a rainy day in June of 2007, President Obama found himself speaking to a subdued crowd in the tiny town of Greenwood, SC. He was exhausted, soaking wet, and beginning to doubt the whole campaign when a voice called out from the back, “Fired up, ready to go!”. The chant, started by one unassuming woman in a church hat, transformed the audience and went on to become a rallying cry in every corner of America.

With the audio of President Obama’s speech as the soundtrack, the film combines original animation by 13 artists from around the world.

Directed and Produced by Dan Fipphen and Elyse Kelly.

When it comes to political speeches, Obama is The Master. He is the finest political orator of our time. The video above s a wonderful showcase of his extraordinary ability. Enjoy!

Brave Greta Thunbergh!

Greta Thunberg, the Swedish schoolgirl who has inspired an international movement to fight climate change, has been nominated as a candidate to receive this year's Nobel Peace Prize.

She was nominated by three Norwegian MPs. If she were to win, she would be the youngest recipient since Pakistan's Malala Yousafzai, who was 17 when she received the prize.

Who is Greta Thunberg?

The Swedish teenager - who on her Twitter page describes herself as "a
16-year-old climate activist with Asperger [syndrome]" - first staged a school strike for the climate in front of the Swedish parliament in August last year.
Since then, she has been missing lessons most Fridays to stage her regular protests.
She continued to gain international attention after speaking at the UN Climate Talks in Poland in December and at the World Economic Forum in Davos in January.
"On climate change, we have to acknowledge that we have failed," she told global economic leaders in Davos.
